The University of California, Santa Cruz Doctoral gown and hood are constructed of EarthGrad fabric in sapphire. The gown features royal velvet panels and sleeve chevrons accented with metallic gold piping, with embroidered university seals on both front panels, chest high.

The doctoral hood is black with degree-colored velvet. The cap is an 8-sided black velvet tam, finished with a gold bullion tassel.
